Central Staines Flooding

Staines, Middx. Tue 11 Feb 2014

 Sandbags at the Jubilee Gardens

But the road was flooded and closed to traffic

 with no sandbags across here

This curious structure looks better with water up to the brim

Sandbags keep the slug's feet dry

Only the lamposts and the top of a seat are visible on the riverside path

which goes in front of the ugliest development in Staines

The Swan Hotel across the river is still just above water

People on Staines Bridge watch and take photographs

Not much sign of the towpath, though some of the trees mark its edge

The riverside path in Staines is also underwater

As is this part of the Thames Path

The Wyradisbury River (a stream of the Colne) didn't seem particularly full

But there was some flooding in buildings on the bank of the Colne

And you could not see the arch of the bridge through which the Colne flows to the Thames a couple of hundred yards away

2'6" to go to reach 1947 levels on the Colne - unless the board has been moved

The High Street was high and dry, but the service road south of it and around the Masonic Hall and car park had

a few inches of water in it
