Peckham welcomes march against deportations

Peckham, London. Sat 21 Mar 2017

Movement for Justice and other protesters met in front of Peckham Library

Antonia Bright of MfJ introduces the protest, and there is some chanting while we wait for late arrivals

The protesters move to the front of the square to be visible from the road

and there are more speeches and chanting

before the protest moves off and across the road into Rye Lane

where they move onto the road, blocking it. A police car brakes noising, then turns around

and speeds away - the wrong way down this one-way section of the street

The protesters walk past buses going up the street

and make a lot of noise to let everyone in the shops know they are there

as they walk along the street they hand out hundreds of leaflets - and almost everyon

seems keen to take them - and many stand and read them and show support

'Stop mass deportation, Stop the charter flights, Treat people as individuals and as human beings

we are NOT animals, We WILL resist!'

'Mass Deportation charter flights are RACIST and INHUMAN'

Whistles and pans make a lot of noise, attracting everyone's attention

At the end of the lane people stop briefly before taking a decision to go back up Rye Lane

Jewdas were one of a number of groups supporting the protest
