Justice for Marikana - 7 years on

South Africa House, London. Fri 16 Aug 2019

People tape the 'Justice for Marikana' banner next to the entrance to South Africa House

 Andy Higginbottom introduces the vigil

People stand holding pictures of the murdered mine workers with their names and short comments on families or jobs etc

Light rain is falling and some hold umbrellas

The campaigners stand in a large half circle on the pavement in front of the entrance to South Africa House

 Some have brought yellow flowers

There are speeches and people read out some statements, including some from people in Marikana

We hear more about Lonmin and the company this has been sold to, and the complicity of the South African

Police who set up the massacre. One of the directors of Lonmin was Cyril Ramaphosa, now President of South Africa.

Flowers are handed out to those who have not brought their own

People come up with the posters to the microphone and read out the names of the murdered men and the

descriptions and the posters and flowers are then taped to the gates of South Africa House

People learn and then sing an African song

Amandla Kitson speaks about her father David Kitson, who was the longest-serving white political prisoner in South Africa under apartheid.

And there is another speech to end the vigil.
