Tamils Sri Lanka Independence Day protest

Sri Lankan High Commission, London. Tue 4 Feb 2020

The Sri Lankan embassy is in a side road north of Hyde Park, and there was a long line of Tamils protesting

on the opposite side of the road. Tamils accuse Sri Lanka of genocide and call on the UN to stop protecting them

Tamils say leading Sri Lankan politicians including President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, prime minster Mahinda Rajapaksa

and former prime minister Ranil Wickremasinghe are war criminals

They call far an end to the military occupation of Tamil areas and for self-determination for the Tamils in Sri Lanka

They want political prisoners in Sri Lanka to be released and for justice over the many killings

'Justice to Victims - Right to Religion'

'Close down all secret camps and torture prisons'

The Sri Lankan government now says that the 20,000 people who ‘disappeared’ following the 2009 massacre

of Tamil-speaking people are dead - killed by the Sri Lankan authorities. Tamils want details and justice.

A Mercedes parked outside the embassy has numberplate '1 SL'

A Socialist Party member gives their support to the Tamils

'To end the exploitation & oppression in Sri Lanka'

'Sri Lankan President Wanted for Genocide'

Tamils want a Tamil homeland, Tamil Eelam, in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka calls itself a 'Democratic Socialist Republic'
