my london diary

dec 2000

jubilee 2000 wound up its activities at the end of the year 2000.

it is difficult to think of a campaigning organsation that has had so much effect on politics world-wide.

started by a small group of activists in this country, its influence has spread around the world, and it has put the agenda of debt onto negotiating tables at the highest level.

one in the eye for those who say that campaigns and actions can't change anything.

its also very much been a campaign that has involved people who haven't otherwise been politically active, largely brought into the movement through the churches and church-related charities such as christian aid and cafod.

some of the actions have been supported by the usual left-wing groups, but many have not.

although it has acheived much, there is still a very long way to go.
